Cornwall (Cornish: Kernow) is a county in South West England, UK, on the peninsula that lies to the west of the River Tamar. Cornwall is also the historic homeland of the Cornish people.
The administrative centre and only city is Truro, while the historic capitals are Launceston and then Bodmin. Including the Isles of Scilly, located 28 miles (45 km) offshore, Cornwall covers an area of 1,376 square miles (3,563 km²). There is a population of 513,528, with a population density of 144 people per square kilometre, or 373 per square mile. Tourism forms a significant part of the local economy. However, Cornwall is one of the poorest areas in the United Kingdom with the lowest per capita contribution to the national economy.
Cornwall is considered one of the six historic "Celtic nations" by many residents there and some question the present constitutional status of Cornwall, referring to it as a Duchy which is separate from England.
